About Almost Heaven
Habitat for Humanity, Inc.
Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization working with local communities across the U.S. and in approximately 70 countries around the world. Established in 1976 in Americus, GA, Habitat has since grown to serve more than 35 million people through new home construction, rehabilitation and repair programs globally (2020).
Putting God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. We know that housing is important to the quality of life, health and economic prosperity of local families, and the broader community. We envision a world where everyone has a decent, affordable place to call home.
Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity was organized in 1988 and incorporated on August 1, 1989 to eliminate substandard and poverty housing in Pendleton County, WV. In 2010 Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity merged with Habitat for Humanity of Greenbrier County, collectively serving Pendleton, Pocahontas, and Greenbrier counties. In 2014 Almost Heaven Habitat opened the White Sulphur Springs ReStore and moved operations and service exclusively to Greenbrier County. Almost Heaven Habitat has since made it’s home in Lewisburg, WV and opened the Lewisburg ReStore (1687 Jefferson St. N) in 2018.
Almost Heaven Habitat has worked alongside volunteers and future homeowners to build, renovate, and repair homes in southeastern West Virginia for more than 30 years. Habitat homes are sold to partner families at no profit, with no interest charged on the mortgage. The money from the sale of each house goes into a revolving “Fund for Humanity” to support future build projects in our community!
