Volunteering in the Valley

Group Volunteer Experiences

Thank you for your interest in group volunteer experiences with Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity! We offer a unique experience for groups that would like to serve our community for a full day or week at a time. Volunteer groups have the opportunity to stay at a Volunteer Center and work on various Habitat and community projects in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. We have been hosting groups through our Volunteering in the Valley program (formerly known as Work Camps, also known as mission trips) for over 20 years. Volunteer groups are essential to our housing ministry and our ability to serve families directly in our community.

If you would like to explore the option of bringing a volunteer group to Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity, please fill out our online inquiry. Check out our Group Volunteer Sponsorship Options, and download our Reservation Contract and Policies. Take a look at FAQs below to learn more about what to expect when your group volunteers with Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity. We accept volunteer groups all year round, but our busiest time of year is March to October.

Volunteering in the Valley: FAQs

  • Volunteer groups are hands-on with variety of projects including: New Home Construction, Critical Home Repairs, Affiliate Development Projects, and Community Projects. We concentrate on these areas because we realize it takes more than just houses to build a true community! We are able to give a fairly accurate picture of specific projects in the week leading up to your group’s visit. Please keep in mind, there are no unimportant jobs! Whatever the project, your group’s efforts help Almost Heaven Habitat keep houses affordable for our families and create a thriving community for them to live in!

  • We take one half-day off on Wednesday so that our staff can plan for the rest of the week. Your group can take some time to enjoy the beauty of the country (maybe get some rest!) and immerse yourselves in the local community. Hopefully, everyone will get a little boost to make it to the end of the week! We are more than happy to help your group plan your half-day off in Greenbrier County. Here are some ideas to get the ball rolling!

  • We have amazing partners in Rhema Christian Center, who provide lodging accommodations for our group volunteers. Rhema offers your sleeping quarters, cots, a commercial kitchen, gymnasium, restrooms and showers for the duration of your stay with Almost Heaven Habitat. There is no charge to your group for using these lodging facilities.

  • Yes! You will have a fully equipped kitchen and most groups bring their food/supplies with them. A Wal-Mart Supercenter and Kroger are located just down the road along with many other restaurants and businesses. Check out places to eat in Greenbrier County!
